1 - Woodlands Estate
1 - Deed of covenant to surrender coyphold premises within the manor and parish of Oystermouth Parties: 1. Adey Bellamy (of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, gent.); Joseph Gurney Bevan (of Stoke Newington, Middlesex, gent.); Wilson Birkbeck (of Fox Ordinary Court Nicholas Lane of London, iron founder); Richard Phillips of East Street, Red Lion Square, Middlesex, conveyancer 2. Mary Phillips of Tottenham, Middlesex, widow 3. George Warde of Bradfield House, near Reading, Berkshire, esq. Premises: The capital customary or coyphold messuage of Woodlands at Blackpill, with the lands and fields called Brints, Barnfield, Lower Brockhole, Middle Brockholes, Upper Brockholes, Caedrough, Penlan Wood, Erwent, Kae y Stubble, Le Mayolls. These were to be purchased for £1,800 by George Warde. Richard Phillips, deceased, had bought these lands from John Dunn and John Givellin and Mary Givellin, his wife, except for the capital messuage known as Woodlands, which was erected by the said Richard Phillips.
2 - Certified copy of the court roll of the manor of Oystermouth of the enrolment of the will of James Phillips, late of George Yard, Lombard Street, London, printer and stationer, deceased. Will dated 11 Jun 1798. The five parties of the first part of 1799 deed were devisees in trust under this will, and they were admitted to the lands. Rhys Davies of Swansea was their attorney, and of Mary Phillips, widow.
3 - Certified copy of the court roll of the surrender of these lands by the five abovenamed (LAC/116/A/1/1-2), and of the admittance of Rhys Davies, gent.
4 - Certified copy of the court roll of the surrender of Rhys Davies and of the admittance of George Warde.
5 - Certified copy of the court roll of the surrender of these copyhold lands by George Warde to the use of a settlement. Rhys Davies was to hold them for the use of i) Charles Warde of Bucknell, co. Oxon., Esq. ii) Rev. Spencer Madan of St. Phillip's, Birmingham.
6 - Plain copy of the court roll of the admittance of David Davies, customary heir and brother of the late Rhys Davies, by John Jenkins gent., his attorney, in trust for Charles Warde and Spencer Madan, trustees of the settlement of General George Warde. Rhys Davies had died in November, 1609. There is a copy of his will among the abstracts of title to the Woodlands estate, see LAC/116/B/1/1
7 - Lease for a year: Parties: 1. George Wards of Woodlands Castle, Esq., General. 2. Richard Janion Navill of Glanmor in Llanelli, co. Carmarthenshire, Esq. Premises: Land called Hoar Stone in Newton, and lands known as Brinne, Grange, Boar's Pit and Slade, in parish of Oystermouth.
8 - Release. Conveyance of freehold estates, and covenant to surrender copyhold estates in the parish and manor of Oystermouth by way of a mortgage. Parties: 1. George Wards of Woodlands Castle. 2. Richard Janion Nevill of Llanelli. In return for a loan of £2,000, Wards mortgaged the lands to Nevill, and agreed at the next court to surrender the Woodlands Estate.
9 - Certified copy of the court roll of the surrender of the Woodlands estate by General Wards, and the admittance of William Smith Harris on behalf of Richard Janion Nevill.
10 - Certified copy of the oourt roll of the surrender of copyhold premises called Whitestone, in manor of Oystermouth. by David Arthur Saunders Davies, Esq., and of the admission of Richard Janion Nevill, Esq., to the same and other estates called Woodlands Castle.
11 - Lease to vest possession. Parties: 1. Richard Janion Nevill of Glanmor, in Llanelli, Esq. 2. Benjamin Hall of Lanover, co. Monmouthshire, Esq.; David Arthur Saunders Davies of Pentre, co. Pembrokeshire, Esq. Premises: Land called Hoar Stone, Brinne, Grange, Boar's Pit and Slade in parish of Oystermouth
13 - Lease for a year: Parties: 1. George Warde of Beechmont, near Sevenoaks, Kent, Esq., elder son and heir at law of George Warde, late of Woodlands Castle, Glamorganshire., General in the army, now deceased [George Warde died 20 June 1850]; Charles Warde the younger of Squerries Lodge, Kent, Esq.; Rev. Spencer Madan of Ibstock, Leicestershire, D.D.; Benjamin Hall of Lanover, Monmouthshire., Esq.; David Arthur Saunders Davies of Pentre, Pembrokeshire, Esq.; Jenkin Davies Barrington, younger, of Lincolns Inn, Middlesex., Esq. 2. William Morgan Davies Barrington of Swansea, gent. Premises: Tenement called Lower Brinne, and the whole of the Woodlands Estate.
14 - Release. Conveyance of freehold land and covenant to surrender copy-hold for securing £5,494 and interest. Parties: 1. George Warde of Beechmont, Kent, Esq., son and heir of the late George Wards of Woodlands. 2. Charles Wards the younger of Squerries Lodge, Kent, Esq.; Rev. Spencer Madan of Ibstoek, Leicestershire., D.D. 3. Benjamin Hall of Lanover, Monmouthshire., Esq. David Arthur Saunders Davies of Pentre, Pembrokeshire., Esq. 4. Jenkin Davies Barrington, the younger, of Lincolns Inn, Middlesex, Esq.; Charlotte, his wife. 5. Jenkin Davies Barrington, the elder, of Swansea, Esq. 6. 15 - Assignment of terms of 1,000 and 1,000 years for better securing mortgages for £5,494 and the interest to Benjamin Hall and David Arthur Saunders Davies. Parties: 1. Richard Janion Nevill of Llanelli (in whom the first term of 1,000 years is vested). 2. James Hall of Swansea, civil engineer (in whom the second term of 1,000 years is vested). 3. George Warde of Beechmont, Kent, Esq. 4. Charles Warde of Squerries Lodge, Kent, and Rev. Spencer Madan of Ibstock, Leicestershire. 5. Benjamin Ball of Lanover, co. Monmouthshire, Esq.; David Arthur Saunders Davies of Pentre, Pemb. 6. Jenkin Davies Derrington the younger, of Lincolns Inn, Esq. 7. Jenkin Davies Derrington of Swansea. 16 - Conveyance of certain lands, part of three several tenements known by the name of Grange, Brinne, and Boar's Pit, in the parish of Oystermouth. Plan. Parties: 1. Charles Warde of Squerries Lodge, Kent, Esq.; Rev. Spencer Madan of Ibstock, Leicestershire 2. Rev. William Vansittart of White Waltham, Berkshire, D. D., and Charlotte his wife. 3. George Warde of Beechmont, Kent, Esq. 4. Opie Staite of Dighton Street, Bristol, Esq. 5. Robert Alexander Price of Staple Inn, London, gent. Refers to a release of 1825 between General Warde and the Earl of Jersey by which General Warde held these lands. These lands are now in the possession of Opie Staite.
17 - Appointment of freehold premises at Blackpill. Parties: 1. Charles Cavendish Fulke Greville ef Hanover Sq., Middlesex, Esq.; John Drummond of Belgrave Square, Esq. (Trustees for the sale and exchange ef the following hereditaments). 2. The most noble Henry Duke of Beaufort. 3. Jenkin Davies Berrington of Honfleur in France, Esq. Premises: Dwelling house and garden of Mary Evans - Lot 131. Small sketch of plot. The Duke of Beaufort gave consent for the Trustees to dispose of the property on payment of £115 16s 6d by Barrington.
